Last night was so much fun. I got to spend one last night with my wonderful teacher Ms. Cris who will forever be an inspiration. She is kind, passionate, and loving to everyone she meets. I am so lucky to have had her this past four weeks. We promised to stay in touch through messaging and email. She gave me a beautiful gift last night. It was a 2014 calendar that exhibited positive messages in Spanish. She told me to email her every month and she would translate the message for me. It was so hard to say goodbye to her. I cried for quite sometime facing the fact I will more than likely never see this beautiful woman again. It was a great way to end my stay here in Barcelona. When I got home last night I helped decorate the living room with Christmas. The girls were so funny and made me laugh constantly. I’m going to miss my host family very much. They have taken great care if me and for that I will be eternally grateful.
These last two days have been beautiful. I have spent them enjoying my favorite places here in Barcelona. It’s all a bit bittersweet. I am very excited to be going home tomorrow but also a little sad to be leaving such an amazing place. I also had the experience to visit the Pyrenees Mountain Range that separates Spain and France. We visited for two days in a small village. My family has a house there that was beautiful. The mountains were absolutely gorgeous! My last day at school was Thursday and it was the hardest day I had since being here. Saying goodbye to the kids I have become so attached to was the hardest thing I had to do! I cried for a couple of hours that day just thinking about how I will never get to see them again. However, on the bright side I gave all of my students my email and in return got some of theirs. Some of the boys even gave me their phone numbers! It was so sweet. My teacher and I promised to stay in touch in the future. The teachers also through us a going away lunch. We got to eat pizza and the school have us a t-shirt and last years yearbook. It was so much fun! Tonight is also a special night because my teacher invited me to her house to meet her family. I am going to miss her so much. I’m so glad I get to spend my last day here with her.
Trying to make the best of the last few days in Barcelona. I’ve been shopping in my favorite place Placa Catalunya! I found a beautiful picture of this place and got a picture taken in the same spot to match! I’m so excited to hang them up at home! I also got the cutest clock that matches my bedroom perfectly! I can’t wait to use it! It was fun just to hang out with Shelly in a place we both love! We were able to get cute pictures with the beautiful Christmas lights hanging everywhere! I’m really going to miss that place!
Yesterday was the day when everyone was celebrating the holiday with their families. Unfortunately I was unable to be with my family for the holiday and my birthday. However, this is a birthday and thanksgiving I will not forget!! Everyone at the school was so sweet wishing all of us happy thanksgiving. I have never received more hugs or kisses on the cheek in my life! The school also prepared us a thanksgiving dinner that included turkey and rice pudding! The food was very good but the company of the teachers was even better! Towards the end of the day I was asked by my teacher Ms. Cris to make some copies of a few papers. Upon my return I found Ms. Cris and Serge( boys teacher) standing in the hallway, with the lights off in the classroom. When I walked in Serge counted to three and both the boys and girls jumped up from behind their desks. With a cake lit with the candles of 22 the class sang happy birthday. I even cried as they sang because they are so sweet! I was able to get great pictures with the students and teachers! It was a birthday I won’t forget.
After leaving the school me and a friend went walking and to our favorite restaurant. There we had a great time eating and talking. Before we were about to leave a man walks up and asked if we were finished. We said yes but soon realized he was not a waiter but a customer at the restaurant! After that one of his friends came over to apologize which sparked conversation about where we were all from and why we were there. They were from London celebrating two 21st birthdays. After finding out it was my birthday they organized together by the bar. They then began to sing happy birthday and bought me a glass of champagne! It was so funny!
When me and Shelly returned to my house my family had set the dining room table and we had pizza for dinner! It was homemade and delicious! After pizza we had the best strawberry cheesecake I have ever tasted! You can’t buy cheesecake here, so my house mother had looked online for the recipe for a New York strawberry cheesecake! All because she found out that I like strawberry cheesecake! My house family was even so nice as to let Shelly stay the night!
It was a great birthday and thanksgiving! The only thing better would have been to have my family with me to celebrate! I miss them so much and can’t wait too see them in less then two weeks!!
This palace was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I felt honored to have had the opportunity to walk and observe such beauty. I can’t believe I was walking where the king and queen lived. Oh and the paintings by Michelangelo were absolutely breathtaking! The pictures in books and on the internet do the real thing no justice! I was blown away by the size and beauty all in one place. I’m so lucky to have had this opportunity!
